This 3rd GORILLA conference convenes at a critical time where accelerated actions form a compendium of actors is required to enable the world achieve the envisaged outcomes under the 2030 agenda. The conference thus provides a great convening platform to address the root causes of the pressing sustainable development challenges confronting the world, but most especially Africa. It will offer an invaluable opportunity to critically assess our collective role in these issues, explore pragmatic solutions, and foster resilience to future environmental disruptions, all in alignment with the aspirations of the United Nations Agenda 2030. The Government of Uganda remains steadfast in its commitment to embracing new scientific insights and work with multiple partners nationally, regionally, continentally and globally to address the multifaceted challenges facing our communities. We recognize the central role that science plays in driving national development and we have recently mainstreamed this tenet in our National Development Plans. We are therefore deeply appreciative of this opportunity to host a dynamic assembly of experts from diverse scientific disciplines, sectors and countries. We eagerly anticipate the exchange of innovative ideas that will emerge during this conference and look forward to implementing these insights for the benefit of both our environment and society.Â
