Introduction

The two days Gorilla International Conference gist is to elicit a range of sustainability issues as stipulated in the Global Development Agenda 2030 distilling challenges and opportunities premised on field conditions, A three-day post GORILLA conference field excursion is being organized to Mt Elgon in Eastern Uganda. Part of the Mt Elgon, above 2500m is a designated Biosphere reserve and National Park, while the rest of the landscape below 2500m is an agricultural landscape. The excursion intends to further the sharing of knowledge on emerging issues in the context of resilience building under diverse socio-ecological systems for rural and urban.

The exciting field excursion is planned for 3 days and will cap the conference series of activities to be held in Kampala. Mt Elgon region is one of the most beautiful and interesting sites in Uganda. The excursion will expose the participants to a range of visual catching landscape scenery and developments within the region. The region’s population is largely dependent on a range of livelihoods involving exploitation of ecosystems and landscape resources. This has, however, paused socio-ecological problems amidst changing climate conditions. Interesting to note is the increasing efforts by the government and various development partners to address the problems through a multitude of innovations. These innovations are worthy witnessing and drawing lessons as professionals in our respective capacities (e.g. researchers, practitioners, tourists).
